Dear Leftlinkers,

I know that the http://www.leftlink.net/ web site isn't ideal for
everyone. Over time, I'll try to make it more ideal. I have decided,
though, to stop sending the individual emails to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
(like this one) and start using the web site's emails (which list
summaries of news and events, directing people to the web site for the
full story). This will happen on March 1, 2004. Between now and then,
the site will duplicate the list.

Why?

The immediate reason is that I'll be overseas for at least two weeks
towards the end of March. I need an easy way to have people submit
events (especially) and news (perhaps not so important?) so that the
administration load can be shared.

Is this a permanent change?

Not necessarily. If it's clearly not working as list members would like
it to work, then I'll look at something else. However, I will need to
know definitely - not by receiving one or two (or even ten or fifteen)
emails, but by getting a large response saying that the new system isn't
working as you'd like it to. There are close to 600 subscribers on the
daily and digest lists, after all.

What will happen?

I will try to get an auto-response on [EMAIL PROTECTED] directing
people to the site, with instructions on how to register and post events
and news. I will try to set something in place so that there will be an
alternate email address that people can submit news and articles to that
can be accessed by more than one person, but sending emails to this
address will necessarily take much longer than submitting them to the
web site. Events go up immediately on the site, and it's a really quick
process to approve news stories. Going through the huge number of
emails I receive to [EMAIL PROTECTED], working out what's spam,
what's not spam but doesn't fit the guidelines, then processing the
emails for posting takes a lot longer.

Any further comments, questions or concerns, please reply to this email.
