Collin,

I am adopted and my birth certificate was legally changed by my adoptive
parents to reflect them as the mother and father 3 years after they adopted
me. The original birth certificate was "sealed" by the court and contains my
original parents. My current birth certificate has the same number but
reflects the adoptive parents as mother and father.

It sounds like the family of which you speak has done the same.

Valerie

Hi Angela,

Many thanks for this info, I will do as you say but will leave the adopted
parents as the preferred couple as he took their name and was raised by
them.
They did leave his original surname as the third christian name.

Just had another look through the family file and discovered that I have him

already entered as a son to his biological parents.

Discovered further problems, the New Zealand BMDs show his birth in 1984
instead of 1894(transposition of figures?) and his mother's name is the
adoptive mother's name.

Total confusion, I suspect someone was telling porkies!!!

I will see if I can contact a family member and ask if anyone now knows what

actually happened, I am not holding my breath..

The chap concerned died during the WW1 so he did not marry and there were
no children.

Thank you for trying to help me.

Colin.

Hi,

Enter his biological parents if you have not done so.

Then go to the child, click on the parent icon. Per your description it
should show his aunt and uncle. If you would like, go to bottom of the
page. Set relationship to mother as adoptive; and then you could do the
same for the 'relationship to father'.

Next click "link to existing parents' Select the appropriate parents from
the marriage list that pops up.

It then returns you to the 'parent screen'. Highlight their names and then
you can set their relationship as "biological"

Finally click/highlight on whichever couple you wish to show on the family
view. This will be the preferred couple.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Adopted Child

After some research on the family I discovered that the child was the wife's

sister's son (her nephew) and the wife adopted him after the deaths of their

husbands who both died in 1891.
I have changed the connection to Adopted but would now like to show his
real parents.
As I have him shown as a son of the family who are actually his uncle and
aunt, what steps should I now take to show who his parents are and leave him

as an adopted son to his aunt?

Any suggestions on how to handle this would be greatly appreciated.

Colin.
