You can get to the same menu by right clicking any of the children number labels.

I do not see a plus, but there is a logo that displays the screen by which you can sort order, select child status, and edit each child, among other things. I had never seen that logo before. When you have an empty slot, clicking there returns add or link to a child, among other options.
