Yes, and that resolved the issue -- I'm not sure why the post reporting
such hasn't gone through yet, while this (old) post with a misdiagnosis
went through today.

Have you tried my patch for the problem (which could be missing strings
in status reply - the strings are mandatory in the sftp draft, and lftp
mishandled the situation)?
