Why not post messages to usenet alt.anonymous.messages? It can provide
great properties for privacy and anonymity. You don't need any servers
or to invent any server software. Just use the existing infrastructure.

alt.anonymous.messages can be used as a big shared mailbox. And the
client application could figure out which messages its supposed to read.
You don't even need to fill out a sign up form.

Similar to http://quicksilvermail.net, which has a great concept. But
its windows only, although there are no conceptual restrictions for
being windows only. Its user interface is too complicated. A rewrite in
another language, better interface and it could be a great application.

Anonymity:
You don't have to use mixmaster to send mails to alt.anonymous.messages.
Anonymity wasn't the point of this proposal? But if you wanted to add
anonymity, you could post using the mixmaster network over Tor. When
fetching alt.anonymous.messages over Tor, neither ISP's or servers could
figure out who is fetching new mails.

Comments on mixmaster:
Please refer to mixmaster as a tool to send mails and discard the
anonymity aspects. [1] [2] Although the network is quite old and small,
the remaining node operators are active on the remops list and not
looking like they are about to shut down the network. There are even
some new developments on github (mixfaster). I've been experimenting
with the mixmaster remailer network. It works reliable. Sending a mail
takes approximately 5 to 30 minutes, when using a one hop mixmaster node.

[1] In theory, remailers or to be more specific, high latency networks
are more secure than low latency networks like Tor. The anonymity
provided by the remailer would add up to the anonymity provided by Tor.
Given the facts, the there is almost no activity activity (press, blog
posts, forum, mailing list discussion, development ceased) it's easy to
assume that remailers have very few remaining servers and users and add
not much anonymity in practice.
