Actor Martin Sheen arrived late Sunday afternoon at the peace protest site within a mile of President Bush's vacation house. Sheen, who plays Democratic President Josiah Bartlet on NBC's "The West Wing," met with Sheehan and prayed the rosary for her slain Army son and other military personnel killed in Iraq. "It's about time I showed up," Sheen told a cheering crowd of about 300 shortly before the vigil. "At least Cindy got the acting president of the United States." Sheehan has captured the world's attention by staging a sit-in near Bush's Central Texas ranch. Sheehan has vowed to stay in the area through Wednesday until the president agrees to meet with her to discuss bringing an immediate end to the war in Iraq. Her son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, was a devout Catholic who was killed in a 2004 ambush in Baghdad. Sheen said it was appropriate to pray the rosary, a Catholic devotion, for Casey Sheehan because 11 rosaries were among the things sent home with his remains. Sheen, 65, is no stranger to the current peace movement. He spoke out against a U.S.-led military strike on Iraq on the eve of invasion in 2003. Sheen also starred in Apocalypse Now, heralded as one of the best anti-war films Hollywood has ever produced. But Sheen wasn't only the famous face to set foot in Crawford on Sunday. The Rev. Al Sharpton led a rousing sermon to the anti-war choir earlier in the day during an interfaith service.
