Ian,

I recently had a similar problem with my destop PC running
W98-SE. I installed the latest versions of MSIE and Netscape
I could find, and then found that when I clicked on a 'Favorites'
link in IE, NETSCAPE would pop up to display the page!

It turned out to be an association with a certain file type I was
not familier with, which was the following:

      "URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol"

Go to the directory C:\Windows\Favorites and see which icon is displayed for
the files there. I'll bet you'll find that it's
the one for IE.

You're supposed to be able to select one of the 'Favorites' files
in that directory, and then Shift-RightClick the same file to
get a menu with "Open With" on it in order to change the program
that all the Favorites are associated with.

I never got that option myself, so I when to the 'File Types' tab
in 'Folder Options' (View menu in My Computer or Windows Explorer),
and just removed that file association from the list. Then
things defaulted back to bringing up IE instead of Netscape for
me.

Good luck.

Matt
