Comment:
I can't reproduce the crash on going online, although I get really many
error messages about failing to write files.
I did however get a crash on shutting down due to user manager triggering
an error and trying to call the logger which had already been destroyed.
r7323 fixes this by shutting down the user manager in a more controlled
way.
