Alain did some research on different open source hosters some time ago.
IIRC Sourceforge and Fedora was among the interesting offers.
I made an empty lincity-ng project some times ago on SF, but i agree
the UI is not good :

I guess it is as safe as sourceforge
ATM we have 1.1G in SVN, and another 1.2G as downloadable files,
most of them old source and binaries.

project, to help transition (3 monthes is rather short)

- my vote is code.google
svn or git (or hg even if dont know it..)
- my vote is git or svn i d'ont care (i use gitsvn on top of svn :) )
