We have a z800 with a z/VM LPAR and three z/OS LPARs. The z/VM LPAR supports two Linux guests used to host test and production TSM servers. We have to relocate some mainframe peripherals to accomodate installation of new non-mainframe equipment. Specifically, we have to relocate a 2074 console controller and a rack containing a number of Optica ESCON to parallel channel converters. The z/VM system does not use any of the I/O devices connected through Optica converters, but the channel paths involved are visible to the z/VM LPAR.
My co-workers want to take down all the LPARs during the equipment move. They argue that we don't know how z/VM will respond to interrupts resulting from I/O devices being removed and replaced. Scheduling downtime is difficult, since the TSM servers are busy running backups at night, while the z/OS applications are heavily used during the day. Has anyone done a similar equipment move with z/VM up and running? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
