Craig, I think, at least in SLES 10 and 11, when you create a volume and set the partition type, when you are done, the partition type switches back to Linux Native. This is also true if you create an MD device and set the partition type accordingly. Once you create the MD, if you look at the partition type of each disk, they are set back to native.
