I am currently using the code from CVS. It is jack version, 0.100.0. There
was a bug in libjack/client.c. Trutkin removed char c = 0 on line 1098,
apparently to quite compile errors in OS X 10.4. However Jack still hangs.
To me it does not look like a channel problem. I can use 56 channels on
hw:0, however when I ask for 56 channels on hdspmbig (prior thread messages)
Jack hangs. Is it a problem with the PCM plug?

There's code in CVS to handle as many channels as you like, but it's never been tested with more than 32, because I don't have enough hardware. (I did unit test the bitmap code.)

sorry, i should have checked mantis/CVS. i didn't realize that this had been
addressed already.

so finding time to test this again I have found that.
1) The problem exists on both RME HDSP Madi and RME Digi 9652
2) The problem exists for virtual multi alsa cards. Even if there is ony one card defined in the virtual multi card it still shows the same problem. 3) The problem is not some sort of failure, instead one just gets "ALSA: poll time out, polled for 32003168 usecs"

and now, drumroll please...

4) The problem exist for Multiplex of multi cards in jack but goes away if we use playback or capture only!!!

more investigation is needed, but I hope that helps narrow the search.

p.s. tested with jackd 0.99.74, alsa 1.0.9 and linux 2.4.25
