Some time ago, a discussion began in the ExamDev and Program mailing
lists about whether or not LPI certification should "expire", as some
other certification programs do. There was a great deal of discussion
and the final outcome was the consensus that once someone is LPI-certified,
that certification should not expire. Scott Murray, our Director of
Exam Development, went out and did some research on the legal ramifications
of that position, and returned with a policy as seen below.

POLICY ON EXPIRATION OF CERTIFICATES
This policy provides that certification will not officially expire, but
that LPI will recommend that employers consider the age of the
certificate when evaluating a candidate's qualifications.
NON-EXPIRATION
Certificates issued by LPI will not carry expiration dates.
LPI will advise employers and others to take into account the amount of
time since a candidate was certified as a factor in determining the
candidate's technical competency. LPI will publish a guide to
interpreting the value of a certificate. This guide will advise that
employers place diminished value on candidate certificates that are
more than 2 years old.
Paper certificates issued by LPI will include a disclaimer that
certificates that are older than 2 years should be considered with
caution. A similar disclaimer will be applied to electronic or other
evidences of certification issued by LPI.
RIGHT TO CHANGE POLICY AND REVOKE CERTIFICATES
LPI maintains the right to revoke any certificate for good cause.
LPI reserves the right to change this policy at any time and to apply
the changed policy retroactively. This includes the right to revoke
certificates in the future based solely on the age of the certificate.
