Subject: Analog joystick problem

Hello,

I've got a question to an analog joystick I connected to my linux box:
I'm using no "real" joystick, it's just a plug with one potentiometer
and one switch connected to it (X1, B1). Now I'm loading the module
the following way:

insmod joystick
insmod joy-analog js_an=0x201,17

as 17=16+1 = ButtonA+X1. When I do this while having plugged in my
"cord" the potentiometer just reads zero while the button works fine.
When I it while having a "real" jostick plugged in, the jostick
readings are just fine.

This would suggest my cord has been soldered wrong. Here's the weird
part: When I do this on the same PC while having DOS loaded instead of
linux, the potentiometer reads my cord just fine. When I use the cord
on another Windows PC, it also gives me perfect readings.

What could be wrong here?

        Thank you
                Joe

No special OS-level support is needed for trilevel cache. As you noticed,
/proc/cpuinfo returns the size of the processor's L2 cache, but the L3
(motherboard) cache is still active and still doing its job. I have a
K6-III-450 on a VA-503+ running my LFS server/router/firewall, and it runs
fine. Before that, it was running SuSE 6.3 and (under VMware) Win98 as a
workstation.

The PC100 and PC133 Specification is just what the RAM is guaranteed
to run at. It has nothing to do with the RAM's abilitly to run at a
different speed, just it's certification. I use siemens ram in my
server boxes and I can run PC100 chips at 133MHz easy. Likewise,
PC133 RAM is guaranteed at 133, but will work FINE at lower speeds.

Had the same problem here due to bad burn on installation CD. Might
be your problem. New download and burn solved the problem.

Does anyone know of a way to make a linux box with a wavelan card act
like an access point instead of a peer-to-peer station? I have a
Silver ORiNOCO card installed and working in the linux box. There are
lots of things that do not work in peer-to-peer mode (like security
apparantly) and I was wondering if you can get the linux box to act
like an access point. I know the lucent access points use the actual
wavelan card in them, so I thought there might be a way..

Thanks!

I am running redhat7.1 on a7v kt133 motherboard using only promise controller
ata100. Linux assigns the hde to the first harddrive on the promise
controller.

Thanks all. I was just worried that I was letting that resource go to
waste (it is nice to have cache running at the cpu freq and not that of the
bus). As far as recognizing, I found that the cache is displayed in
boot.msg which is made by the kernel logger.

Ahhh.... Could you describe this splitter cable in more detail. Maybe
where I could get one, if you know? I just picked up a T 3000 and was
trying to get it to work on the "B" connector of the floppy cable. No
wonder it won't work if it's not designed to go there.

Suse has an article (search in their support database at their site for
"Promise") about some issues (for instance SuSE 7.0 can't recognize a hard
disk connected to the onboard Promise Controller on an A7V motherboard
without this patch. There are also issues with Geforce cards fixed by this.
I think they throw in an updated GL driver or something. Not sure. SuSE 7.1
has this fixed.

I'm running RH 7.0. This model is not listed in the printtool database

Does anyone know if/where I can get a driver for this thing? Thanks.

Just installed RH 7.0 and trying to get things working on a
system I am totally unfamiliar with (although I have used older
Unixes).

The Postscript driver under printtools does not set the top margin
correctly for 1-up printing. What I could find for accessing files
is that this is a known problem. Is there a known fix?

While I could reset the margins in all of the base (TeX and LaTeX) documents, it means
that other "printing" devices (e.g. Adobe
Distiller) would not end up with proper margins without resetting
and recompiling. Something that addresses the printer sounds like
a much better idea.

I don't think it matters, but I am using a HP LJ4550N printer.

All the above mentioned OS' recognized the controller as an Adaptec

without any luck. I really want to get RedHat 6.2 running. When I try
the 1520 driver it is unrecognized. Do I need to ad parameters or will
it just not work on Linux?

FYI... I have put an aha-1540 in the ISA slot to for a "quick fix", but
I want to use the built in one if possible. It's a matter of principle
now.

I'm at the point now where I'm ready to switch to linux, but I have

Has anybody been able to get a MicroSolutions Backpack CD-RW to work

supposed to be able to get software driven hardware (which I think it
may be) such as WinModems to work in Linux, but I know of people who
have gotten WinModems to work so I'm hoping something similar can be
done with my Backpack.

Also, I have no idea what some of my hardware is. Some of it is
pretty old. Any tips in determining just what some of them are?

I had a scare today. I booted my BP6 (twin 400MHz celeries) and /usr
(/dev/hdc3) was reported to be corrupted!

The other two ATA HDs (a Western Digital and a Seagate) mounted OK... I
tried the other partitions of the Fujitsu and got the same report about
there being no valid file system.

I was about to get really annoyed, when I thought about something...
I looked in the boot messages, and found that where I should have seen
the drive manufacturer reported (Fujitsu), I got something like "@!&"...

I rebooted, and went into the BIOS setup, and found that the BIOS had
"lost" the IDE configuration!

I ran through the auto-detection of IDE devices, and all three discs
were found and correctly set up. Next reboot, all worked
perfectly. Strangely enough, the BIOS had not lost the time and
date... I wonder why?
