Yes, this printer should work fine. A few people have reported color
oddities with the 895 which may or may not also be present on the 890
(Anyone got one? I would like to get this 890 confusion aof mine ll
straightened out).

You'll want the latest version of Ghostscript, with either the cdj890
driver or the hpdj driver. Both of these drivers are third-party
drivers, but one or the other is often included in contributed binary
packages of Ghostscript.

It may also be necessary to update yourself to the latest printtool
and rhs-printfilters; these are needed so that printtool will know
about the newest Ghostscript drivers.

I assume your system is a Intel 440BX system with an Intel Astor chassis
(part name may be different if assembled by some OEMs)... YouŽll need the
most recent BMC firmware (and the correspondending BIOS) from
support.intel.com, afterwards any Linux distribution will installa w/o any
problems...

I got ahold of an old Duo 210 for free as well, and I'm still trying to
get it to work. I didn't try any of the 68k linux options. I was
trying OpenBSD on that particular box (just because), but I think you
might run into the same issue I did. The 210 I have does only have 4MB
of ram. It's not enough to run the OpenBSD booter, unfortunately. I'm
dying to get my hands on a 20MB modules for the 210 (proprietary) so I
can take this a step further.

Give it a try anyway and see what happens. If it works, let me know :)
Check out www.debian.org for info on 68k linux projects.

Enable aic7xxx support as a module in the SCSI device section of your .config
file (made during the "make config" step. Make the bzImage again. Make the
modules. Install the modules. Then redo the mkinitrd.

somewhere on the cdrecord-page www.focus.de or something like
that is a link to a file README.ATAPI which explains how you
should compile your kernel 2.0.35 or later

it believe atapi-cdrom N
scsi support Y (No Module)

Are you by any chance using a diamonad stealth video card?

Try getting a flash rom upgrade (www.diamondmm.com).

I have the Diamond Viper 550 and XF86 3.3.3.1, but I still cant get the TNT
to work. I ran XF86Setup and selected the Viper550, 16 megs of memory and
selected my monitor, but the server would not start. I tried multiple
resolutions and the only on that would work was 640X480X8.

Any ideas?

Great, so I will make even bigger the pile of redundant and inconsistent

course.) Geez, how lazy can you be.

I was able to install Slackware linux 3.6 and standard VGA16 Xwindows on my
Compaq Aero which isn't a whole lot more powerfull. Mine is a 486/33 with
12 MB and about 200 MB allocated for the linux partition. Reasonably the
same in comparison with Pentium II systems. I am able to do just about
anything on it. I found out about running the "staticgray" visual for X
and Netscape and the 16 colors makes a nice grayscale and webbrowsing
becomes tolerable and many other things can be done. Even runs DosEMU and
a few other nice things.
The nice thing about Slackware is that it is so highly configurable. I
use Redhat on my desktop because it is so powerfull but on a small system
Slackware is the way to go. You install exactly what you want and
configure your kernel for high-speed by leaving out things that you don't
need on a slow system.

Gotcha

But i do have a analog computer at home from solartron UK.

It is a type of analog wavemaker and you can use filters and integrators etc.
ITs speed is about 10 Hz with 8 channels and one voltmeter as output.
But it works great. Even makes music.

I don't know the others, but I was generaly disappounted with MAG.
Same (poor) class as, say, current Philips models, similar (wasted)
money.

Inexpensive high quality monitor I have happens to be an Iiyama 450 Pro
(17" but quality matched only by a 21" Sun monitor on my Sparc).

Sufficient for what? It is very sufficient for me (working with the
abovementioned monitor) when using both Linux / KDE 1.1 / XFree86
at 1280x1024 and in Win98 in the same resolution. On the 17" monitor
I have higher resolution is impractical (not due to lack of
sharpness or contract -- these are nearly perfect on the Iiyama
monitor -- but due to the limitations of my sight).

The only acceleration to be had with SVGALIB is with MESA/Glide. This requires a 3DFX
