Well, try setting the IRQ to 11... this is one of the few IRQs that my
comp says this bad-boy will run at... worth a try, right?

Do you know how one of these works (a non-usb one)?

I've yet to see an external serial port modem that's a winmodem.

I want to print duplex on my (non-postscript) HP 970Cxi (it can print
duplex under windows, according to the manual). I use ghostscript 5.5,
and the printer driver HP550 (as far as I remember). Is there any way to
do so under linux (SuSe 6.3...)?

Thanks, Oliver

For those who don't seem to know: newsgroups are part of the internet
called 'usenet' most ISP'S (Internet Service Providers) provide AUP's
(Acceptable Use Policies) for guidance on the use of usenet. It is
against the AUP's to post binary to non binary news groups and can
result in termination of your ISP account.

So please:
DO NOT POST BINARIES TO NON BINARY NEWS GROUPS,
DO NOT POST HTML TO NEWS GROUPS,
DO NOT OVER QUOTE WHEN REPLYING TO MESSAGES and
its is standard etiquette to reply BELOW the quoted relevant portion eg;

> How are you
I'm fine thank you.

If you don't understand any of this DON'T POST!!!! go read the AUP's.

Sorry for jumping on my high horse here, but I'm sick of dl'ing bloated
posts containing binaries or the same info I dl'd yesterday and the day
before and the day before that etc.

Hello all,

I am looking to tack together a couple of servers in a rack-mounted
solution - because physical room is a factor I can't really go for full
sized servers.
Can anyone point me towards a site that sells the racks/cases/server
components in kit form?

Are you seriously going to muck about with gum and string - to pump water through your
computer?
How about piping the hot air out of the room via a small extraction system.
The extractor fan does not need to be in the room - nice and quite - and save the ice
for
some cool drinks :o)

Guys, water cooling is not a joke. It is for real. If done
correctly it is safe and about 25 times more effective
in removing heat from your CPU or even vid card!!
By the time was are all running 2+ GHz machines
we might all be using liquid cooling.

www.pcicase.co.uk do a 1U case - haven't actually bought one from them, but
might do in the near future... so not a recommendation, but info.

Hi, I tried the lines written below and I am still having some
problems. Here are the specs:

I entered:
mknod -m 666 /dev/ttyS4 c 4 68
setserial -v /dev/ttyS4 port 0x10B8-10BF irq 03 uart 16550A

When I try to set up the modem in gnome, I get a segmentation fault,
and the modem doesn't get detected.
Any more ideas?

Thanks again,

I've had no experience of cobalt hardware, but I suspect you are provided
the full thing rather than the kit to make your own. Given the heat problem
with such formats, I would be wary about building your own.

All very well and good. But please understand that many of us scan thru
500+ messages a day from our various newsgroup sucks. My reader shows
me the top 22 lines of the message, and if the poster hasn't had
anything to say in those first lines, I, like most, will not scroll down

I agree, the etiquette says we should, but this is the *real* world.

Subject: 10Gb disk and mke2fs -- solved
Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 08:14:04 -0400

I had posted a message describing a problem I had with
making filesystems on my new 10 Gb disk. Turns out that
the problem was that the BIOS had auto-detected the
drive on installation and had set it up as LBA with
255 heads. Apparently, mke2fs did not like that. I
went back and manually re-detected the drive with
the "LARGE" option rather than "LBA", which brought
the number of heads back down to 128. This seems to
have cured the problem.
