Don't see why not. Suse puts their distribution on DVD.
It may not be that common at this point but it's certainly
        possible.

        Yes actually.

Alternately, 640M just isn't big enough for a system backup.
Besides, this sort of arrangement is quite common in backup
systems where the size of the intended back up is larger
than the size of the backup media.

The CD backup of my MP3 archive spans about 20 disks these days.

Personally, I'd love a 5 or 10 disk changer attached to a CDR.

Also while the herd mentality is certainly there, I think the
nature of software interfaces and how they tend to interfere
with free choice is far more critical. It's not enough to merely
have the "biggest fraternity", you also need a way to trap people
in once they've made a bad initial decision.

Ray, I don't know if there is a way to get the
PA301 to work, but I do know that you can use the
Diamond Homefree HPNA cards with linux, if you
compile pcnet32 into the kernel, alias eth0 to
pcnet32.o in /etc/modules.conf and set up IP
masquerading (www.linux.com/howto)

Good luck!

P.S. Return your PA301 now, it is probably junk!
I've had three in my system so far, and all three
have become defective after about a week of use
(you will know when you loose a dial tone on your
phone line). Don't think about contacting their
tech support; I waited for an hour last night
just to get disconnected by their system.

I'm wondering if there is any project happening to get this great mp3
player to work with Linux. Aparently Jasper Wallace is cooking up support
for BSD. http://pointless.net/~jasper/rio600.tgz

ps: I'm getting sick of listening to the last 5 songs I uploaded to my

That MSI board uses the new Via vt686b South Bridge. Supposedly this
is not perfectly supported under Linux yet. I remember reading that ATA-33
support works fine, but ATA-66 and -100 support is not there yet. I wish I
could tell you exactly how to solve this problem, but I don't know. Maybe
setting your hard drives to ATA-33 mode?

Incidentally, I also have an 800Mhz Duron and that same MSI
motherboard coming to me in the mail as we speak, so if you even find a
solution, please tell me :)

It is a winmodem, so you will need to use the ESS "Linmodem" driver for
this modem's chipset (ESS ES56T-PI). Please see:

It depends on the model. Just about all of the Supra Express models have
"56i" somewhere in the name. Do you have a model number and/or
description?

Hi,

I can tell you that I solved the problem. By looking at the jumpers on the
board it quickly became clear that these installed wrongly. Someone in
the factory had simply been too lax. Set the jumpers as in the
documentation and everything is well.

AFAIK HPT370 supports only software raid, thus you probably held with no
support. What I did was kinda lame but it works for my purposes. I installed

I previously used RedHat 6.2 with kernel 2.2.16-3smp on my server
without problems. Due to adding the Adaptec RAID 2100S card and problems
with getting the right version of drivers a reinstalled the server with

says on booting "Warning, only 896MB will be used" and I really can't see
the whole memory. I tried append="mem=1024M" in lilo.conf, but it didn't

Is that any limitation in that version of kernel? Can anybody help with

I'm running Mandrake 7.2 on an AMD Duron. After several months of no
problems, I suddenly have a lock symbol on the directories /mnt/cdrom and
/mnt/floppy, and canno mount or otherwise access that directory.

Haven't the slightest idea what caused this and have found no info with
searches of the web using "locked files" or "locked directories" etc. Have
found no info in the Linux books or Mandrake or KDE user guides, including
Konquerer guide.

I noted that if I remark out the cdrom line in /etc/fstab and reboot, the
/mnt/cdrom directory will come up with the lock icon missing that was on top
of the cdrom directory icon, and I can mount the cdrom and see its contents.
But if I " unremark the cdrom line in fstab and reboot, the /mnt/cdrom again
comes up locked with the lock icon showing and I cannot access the cdrom.

Has anyone ever seen this before and know how to clear this lock?
