Well, I was hoping pci.ids would be more informative.
I assume you are using the PATA interfaces and not the SATA interfaces? If so, I don't think you should bother, it's an and Intel PII(something) ATA100.

As for the AMD you mentioned, I agree, compiling the IDE interface does provide a performance boost. The AMD PATA seems more advanced then the Intel one.

I'll spare you the longer "lspci -v" (unless you'll tell me it's

That's under RH 8's kernel: 2.4.18-14

At least for the devices we looked up, the
linux-2.4.23/drivers/pci/pci.ids file shows awareness of the new PCI
product ID's.

What do you get with lspci?

Hello,

I'm trying to help our sysadmin compile a 2.4.23 kernel for
an ASUS P4P800 motherboard
(http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4p800/overview.htm).
and we are not sure which chipset we should configure for it.

The chipset listed is the Intel 865PE.

Can anyone tell me what we need to compile into the kernel?

It's a RedHat 8 distro, but a vanilla kernel downloaded from
a mirror of kernel.org.

Thanks,
