Ok if you could atleast get a gtk-devel src rpm..and do a rpm install
may be in this or some other machine, you should find the
gtk-devel tar file in/usr/src/redhat/SOURCES and a spec file in
/usr/src/redhat/SPECS(Which may also have what patches you have to apply
to make the source compile)

Have you installed any new packages or only the redhat 7.1 default
packages. Get a /var/lib/rpm from some friend using redhat 7.1.
Better upgrade to something like redhat 9 or Fedora!
