I have a batch file that needs to be converted in a linux shell script.

The .bat file looks like:

PATH \WINNT\system32\;\WINNT\;\java\bin\;\java\libSET
CLASSPATH=\java\lib\classes.zip;.;\java\lib\comm.jar;\java\lib\Audio.jar;\j
ava\lib\Ftp.jar

What should the .sh file look like?

Subject: CD to mp3 fries my linux box
From: John Hunter <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date: 18 Feb 2001 10:35:42 -0600

I have been using some software to convert CDs to mp3s. I have tried
two configurations: one using cdda2wav to do the wav conversion and
lame to encode the mp3s, and the other using grip/cdparanoia/lame.

While I usually have no problems, in about 1:10 cases the system
freezes (even trying to kill X with Ctrl-Alt-F1 doesn't help, nor does
Ctrl-Alt-DEL). In the first config the hard drive light was stuck on,
and in the other config nothing seemed to be happening (no HD light,
no CD light). When I rebooted (both times) the system would not get
to the lilo: prompt, complaining of hard drive errors. I tried
rebooting several times and the same error happened each time (though
the error happened in a different place in the two configs).

Then, I turned the computer off to let it cool off (hoping against
hope) and both times it booted fine. The first time fsck found and
corrected a problem with the node that was being written to, the
second time there were no errors.

My system rarely if ever crashes or freezes otherwise.

So it looks like the hard drive is begin overworked, but that is only
a guess. It's a 7200rpm 40GB Maxtor, so I guess overheating could be
a problem. But I often do hardrive intensive things, suvh as encoding
several hundred MB files, and have never had any trouble.

I sometimes wonder if the DVD drive that I using for reading the CDs
is causing me problems. It whirs like a 57 Chevvy when it is being
accessed for CD reads.

Some system info: RHL 6.1, AMD 700MHz, 128MB PC100 RAM, Maxtor 40GB
7200 rpm IDE, 1 case fan, dual CPU fans, Creative 6x PC-DVD IDE drive
with SCSI emulation.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
John Hunter

This is very strange. I think you should "strace ls plusnode.gif" and
see exactly what is too large for which defined data type.

Read the man page for "debugfs" about 3 times, umount the partition this
weird file is on, run debugfs -w on the partition. After you've used
debugfs to remove the file, run e2fsck on the partition just in case.

Hello.

For some years I used Window$ and Linux on the same machine and I never
cared much about what the hardware is doing under Linux. Now I want to throw
Window$ out of my system and so I'd like to know how to get this devices
running:
->HP Deskjet 722C (720 compatible) - It runs - a bit, but graphics are very
bad (too small, patterned on the paper) and the text is _much_ too small
-> Logitech QuickCam VC - I was already looking far a driver in the
Internet (www.linux-usb.org and following sites...)
-> Parallelport scanner - Not supportet, isn't it?

I'm using SuSE linux 6.2 Kernel 2.2.10.

Every little help wanted!

Greetings

-Robert

RH7.0 has the new lilo which claims to got rid of the 1024 cylinder problem.
I never tried that out.
My tiny 16MB linux /boot partition is at the beginning of my hard disk, which I
created using Partition Magic.
If everything turns out ok, you won't need to create a boot disk. (Pretty hard
to fix, if your linux becomes
unbootable).
Have you thought of buying a real floppy drive? They are cheap ($17 Canadian)
and are worth it to solve Windows
and Linux boot up problems.
