Have you tried just mounting the /dev/sdX1 partition (check the log files

work do you have SCSI Disk support?

Yes, I've tried mounting it. The mount process hangs in uninterruptible
sleep. Yes, I do have SCSI support, and the USB floppy works properly
(although for some reason it maps to eight scsi devices--/dev/sda and
/dev/sg2-8). Here's a typical message log for when the SanDisk device is inserted:

Dec 12 13:27:14 fmtcwp1 kernel: hub.c: new USB device 00:1d.7-6.4, assigned address 5
Dec 12 13:27:14 fmtcwp1 kernel: scsi2 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
Dec 12 13:27:14 fmtcwp1 kernel: Vendor: Generic Model: STORAGE DEVICE Rev: 1.25
Dec 12 13:27:14 fmtcwp1 kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Dec 12 13:27:14 fmtcwp1 kernel: Attached scsi removable disk sdb at scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
Dec 12 13:27:14 fmtcwp1 kernel: SCSI device sdb: 256000 512-byte hdwr sectors (131 MB)

I've tried mounting it from /dev/sdb and /dev/sdb1 with various options; mount always hangs and can't be killed.

Sounds like PeterB (later in this thread) has had similar experience.

I have been trying to get a SanDisk Cruzer Mini flash drive working
under SuSE 8.2. I am having the following problem:

When I insert the device, it is detected by the USB system, and shows up
in /proc/bus/usb/devices with correct info and serial number. However,
in /proc/scsi/scsi, it is listed as:

Host: scsi2 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: Generic Model: STORAGE DEVICE Rev: 1.25
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02

It is not auto-mounted (I don't suppose it should be in SuSe??). When I
run sg_scan -i, it lists devices /dev/sg1 through /dev/sg8 as "Sony
USB-FDU", and then hangs. ps shows the "sg_scan" process in state "D"
(uninterruptible sleep). There is also another process, "[scsi_eh_2]"
in state "DW". Of course, neither process can be killed short of rebooting.

Has anyone else had/solved this problem, or can offer advice??

All recent SuSe patches have been installed, including kernel 2.4.20-4GB.
