Hi, Some days ago I did a complete new install of mandrake 10.0 (with kernel 2.6.3-4mdk) on an old computer of mine (pentium 3 @ 450 MHz). All seems to be working quite all right except for my MGE ellipse ups with usb connection. Last weekend I spent several hours reading FAQ's and howto's, searching mailinglist archives etc. etc., but still it isn't working so I hope someone here can point me in the right direction. The problem is that everything seems to be all right (except for the error in /var/log/messages perhaps), but I don't have a /dev/usb/hiddev0 on wich I can talk to the ups with nut. Here's some info about my system:
I have the hotplug service turned off, so I don't think this is interfering. When I plug in the usb connection to the ups I see the following in /var/log/messages: --- Apr 25 09:44:21 fileserver kernel: usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using address 4 Apr 25 09:44:21 fileserver kernel: hid: probe of 1-1:1.0 failed with error -5 --- When I plug in a wacom tablet I see the following in /var/log/messages: --- Apr 25 11:06:25 fileserver kernel: usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using address 3 Apr 25 11:06:25 fileserver kernel: hid: probe of 1-1:1.0 failed with error -5 Apr 25 11:06:27 fileserver kernel: input: WACOM ET-0405-UV1.1-1 on usb-0000:00:07.2-1 Apr 25 11:06:27 fileserver kernel: drivers/usb/core/usb.c: registered new driver usbmouse Apr 25 11:06:27 fileserver kernel: drivers/usb/input/usbmouse.c: v1.6:USB HID Boot Protocol mouse driver Apr 25 11:06:28 fileserver kernel: drivers/usb/core/usb.c: registered new driver wacom Apr 25 11:06:28 fileserver kernel: drivers/usb/input/wacom.c: v1.30:USB Wacom Graphire and Wacom Intuos tablet driver Apr 25 11:06:28 fileserver kernel: ts: Compaq touchscreen protocol output --- And I get a working /dev/usbmouse on wich I can use the tablet, so I don't know if the 'error -5' message means anything. Lsmod shows (deleted some lines): --- Module Size Used by hid 53312 0 uhci-hcd 29104 0 usbcore 99132 4 hid,uhci-hcd --- Lsusb gives the following result: --- Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0463:ffff MGE UPS Systems UPS Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 --- And in /proc/bus/usb/devices the ups shows up as: --- T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=01 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=1.5 MxCh= 0 D: Ver= 1.10 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=0463 ProdID=ffff Rev= 0.01 S: Manufacturer=MGE S: Product=ELLIPSE C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=a0 MxPwr= 20mA I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=03(HID ) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=(none) E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.)
