Hi, I've just bought a Freecom FS5, and it doesn't work when I plug it in to my FC3 laptop. This drive is quite novel in that it is bus- powered, but uses two usb connectors in order to draw enough power without breaking the USB spec (according to them).
So, when I plug the second connector in I get this syslogged: Nov 19 01:23:43 ibm kernel: usb 4-4: new high speed USB device using address 5 Nov 19 01:23:48 ibm kernel: usb 4-4: control timeout on ep0in Nov 19 01:23:48 ibm kernel: usb 4-4: control timeout on ep0in Nov 19 01:23:48 ibm kernel: usb 4-4: string descriptor 0 read error: -71 Nov 19 01:23:48 ibm last message repeated 5 times Nov 19 01:23:48 ibm kernel: usb-storage: probe of 4-4:1.0 failed with error -1 Nov 19 01:23:48 ibm kernel: usb 4-4: string descriptor 0 read error: -71 The following are the extracts of my /proc/usb/devices (one entry for power, one entry for data): T: Bus=02 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=12 MxCh= 0 D: Ver= 1.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=07ab ProdID=fce4 Rev= 1.00 S: Manufacturer=Freecom S: Product=Power Control X C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=498mA I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=03(HID ) Sub=01 Prot=00 Driver=usbhid E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) Is faulty hardware a possibility? Does anyone have any success stories with this drive, perhaps with a different kernel? Thanks in advance for any help, I'm happy to spend some time on this if pointed in the right direction.
