A bit more info that may be relevant: which ever os I type and launch, the process triggers the bios virus protection routine, (and I could turn it off) but I can continue.
The Bios routines are a nuisance, as you should have turned it off before you install Linux in the first place (or any other operating system). Any good antivirus software under the OS of your choice will check for this anyway so disabling it is not a big deal.
