Considering that it queues up all the operations, it would probably do a
whole bunch of shuffling. I always get paranoid it will bomb out half way
through. Backup backup....
I was creating a 4 gig fat32 on the laptop, and during the resizing of the
primary ntfs, it crashed with an error. I had to boot to the recovery
console and run chkdsk to fix the XP laptop. Interestingly, this is a known
issue, as I found the instructions on Symantec's site when I googled the
error from another machine. All was ok afterwards, but I have heard horror
stories about PQ Magic from others. You need to have a backout plan when
you use the program, but it is so handy. Since the tool cannot be trusted
to never fail, it may be much easier to just backup, delete, create,
restore.

I did it yesterday - so yes it can. Mind you, the primary partion was the
last one before the beginning of the extended - don't know how it handles it
if it is not like that.

Partition Magic Version 8 can covert from primary to logical. I have not
tried it though, but it says it can.

No its not possible.

However you can backup your installed distro on one parititon to another,
then use fdisk to delete that partition, and create an extended one instead,
then fill that with logical partitions, then restore the backup to the
target partition. Finally you will have to bend the filesystem you restore
to make it smaller.

I suggest you just nuke one partition and reinstall what was there later.

Hi,

I wanted to try another dist but found I had used up all my primary
partitions. Anyone know if it is possible to convert a primary into a
logical?

Cheers

Paul
