Hi all,

This may be off topic, but there are plenty of gurus who read this list
and are interested in tv.

My tuner is a Sommet, Code: SHDNZ1. It appears to be a specialised
computer. The code running it is held in flash memory, and updates are
available to be run from a computer connected to the unit with a serial
crossover cable. So far no indication of what the underlying operating
system, if any, is.

Now to my problems.

1. the clock keeps getting out of sync with the real world.

2. sometimes the number buttons on the remote fail to change to another
channel, this can have various effects - unable to select any channel,
unable to select 1 channel only, banner showing chosen channel appears
but no info and no change.

3. Sometimes the remote fails to work. (NO its not a battery problem)

In general the only way to get the unit working properly again is to
switch off power and allow it to reboot. Turning off and back on using
the power button on the remote usually results in a tv with no channel
selected and no display.

BTW the tuner is 1 approved by Freeview.

General performance is frustrating. Before I try to return it, is anyone
else using this tuner, any comments on any of tuners on the market, or
other war stories.

Any comments appreciated
I see this is a set top box. Have you got the latest firmware?
I was told so when I bought it last October. Rang Bond and Bond who told me
to take it direct to Tisco. They wanted $$$ to look at it which I refuse to
pay, so they sent me back to Bond and Bond who are now looking at my
problems. Their phone service left much to be desired.
Also there are various forums more suited to this discussion, not that
I mind it here but you might find more people wth these on, say,
geekzone or the nz digital tv forum?

well what firmware does it have?

google points me here
http://sommetdigital.co.nz/hd_digital_tv_receiver.htm and I assume you
have been there. The latest firmware seems to be
magello_sommeti_v1.16_080919.bin

Thanks for your reply Nick. Bond and Bond, or Sommetdigital are going to replace the unit next week so problems solved - I hope. I had found the file you quote, it appears to be a compiled windows binary.

Somewhere else on the web I found the specs for the development of this type of software, but of course did not keep the link and can not find it again. From memory it was to be developed in java

The name 'SOMMET' is also an anacronym for "Storage On-line Management and Media Error Transmission" and appears to have many applications
