The following release just went out over the wires: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Lauren Shanahan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Michael Kaminer Public Relations, 212.627.8098 ASSOCIATION OF INTERNET PROFESSIONALS RELEASES DOMAIN NAME SUPPORTING ORGANIZATION DRAFT PROPOSAL http://dnso.association.org/ Washington, D.C., January 19, 1999 -- In its effort to balance the interests of individual users with commercial interests, the Association of Internet Professionals (AIP) today offered its proposal to form the Domain Name Supporting Organization (DNSO) called for by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The proposal was posted for public comment today at http://dnso.association.org/. The proposal for the creation of a DNSO is being made public in order to seek public comment and industry consensus on its method. AIP joins several other organizations in the industry seeking procedures for equitable representation in the DNSO. Final proposals are due to ICANN by February 5th. "AIP knows that the DNSO will set the future of domain name management," stated AIP Executive Director Andrew Q. Kraft MAIP. "Obviously, this is an issue that will have serious implications for both our members and the industry at large. We're offering our proposal as a starting point for our efforts to bring about a community consensus, and look forward to working with any groups that wish to so support it." "AIP expects to work with both individuals and industrial interests to iron out differences between the various proposals, supporting AIP's goal of unifying the global community of Internet professionals," added AIP Chair Mitchel K. Ahern MAIP. ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION OF INTERNET PROFESSIONALS The Association of Internet Professionals (AIP) is the premier professional association for Internet professionals worldwide.
