That doesn't have to be such a problem if you use image replacement.

automatically by something like Imageready.

Going back to my first point, I wouldn't worry about this as you'd automatically disregard any styles exported from ImageReady (or any other graphics program) and just create the markup from scratch.

Maybe select some designs from CSS galleries to demonstrate what can be done. You would have to be selective, however, as the entries aren't always great examples of best practices.

Their checklists and critera might also provide some useful info as to things to keep in mind/strive for when creating websites.
