Already considered to use MDC?

i.e.:

MDC.put( "category_tech", "EJB" )
MDC.put( "category_func", "Plan" )
try
{
    myLog.xxxxx
}
finally
{
   MDC.remove( "category_tech" );
   MDC.remove( "category_func" );
}

The pattern can resolve this MDC values with the %X switch: %X{category_tech}
%X{category_func}
