Dominik Psenner closed LOG4NET-276.
-----------------------------------
Resolution: Won't Fix
Fix Version/s: (was: 1.2 Maintenance Release)
Assignee: Dominik Psenner
One will always have to specify a writable path where the logfiles should be
stored. In normal circumstances the log4net configuration file location is at
the assembly location and that directory, being a subdirectory of "Program
Files", is naturally write protected. Giving someone a hammer without telling
him to not hit his thumb is equally sensible. As I see it, this feature would
create more problems than it would solve and therefore I mark it as a "won't
fix". Feel free to reopen the issue if you disagree with this decision.

> I specified only the file name with no path so it, naturally, wrote the file
> to the "current directory" which turned out to be an unexpected folder.
> Googled, but didn't see an easy way to configure a RollingFileAppender (or
> FileAppender) to write the output file to the same folder as the log4net
> config file.
> It would also be nice to be able to specify that the file be written to
> whatever folder the log4net assembly is running from. I would've assumed
> this would be an easy/common config setting, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
> I'm still learning so if the feature already exists, please post.
