I'm testing a new install of Ubuntu 11.10 amd64 with an i386 chroot.
The client is an Intel D525MW board which I'm using successfully with
an Ubuntu 11.04 server.

The thin client is connected by VGA to an LCD monitor with 1920x1080
resolution. When the thin client boots, the resolution in Ubuntu
appears correct, however once rdesktop starts, the resolution goes to
something wider, where the pixel size looks native but the mouse
pointer can be moved off the right side of the screen. I had this same
problem with Ubuntu 11.04, but with one difference: in 11.04 the
rdesktop resolution matches the screen resolution, ie, the Windows
logon screen is centered to the right of the monitor's center. In
11.10 however, the Windows logon screen has a resolution of 800x600
and is constrained to the top left corner of the screen. The mouse
pointer can move off the Windows desktop, but transforms from a
Windows pointer to an Ubuntu pointer in doing so.

The fix in Ubuntu 11.04 was to add the following two options in lts.conf:

X_MODE_0=1920x1080
XRANDR_DISABLE=True

Doing so in 11.10 causes Ubuntu to assume the proper resolution of
1920x1080, but Windows is still cramped in the corner with 800x600
res. If I use only the option XRANDR_DISABLE=True then the Ubuntu boot
splash screen appears to have normal resolution, but by the time the
Windows logon screen appears Ubuntu has switched to a resolution of
1024x768 and Windows again is 800x600.

I also tried using only the option X_MODE_0=1920x1080 and this results
in an Ubuntu resolution of 1024x768 and a Windows resolution of
800x600.

Besides using updated versions of Ubuntu on the server and chroot, one
other important difference between the two systems is the version of
rdesktop. In the 11.04 chroot I'm using rdesktop 1.7.0-1 from the
otto-kesselgulasch PPA due to a bug with the Windows mouse pointer in
the main repo version. In the 11.10 chroot I'm using the main repo's
rdesktop package, as Otto doesn't have an rdesktop package for oneiric
and the mouse pointer bug appears to have been corrected. I did
attempt to manually install the natty rdesktop package from the PPA
but got a dependency error and decided to post here before pursuing
it.

Any ideas?
