I'm struggling to make pam_mount work with the LTSP display manager (ldm) but it seems I'm unable to do it. I know pam and ssh dont get along well and I have made the proposed changes to /etc/ssh/sshd_config . But still it wont work. If I switch to a console screen on the ltsp client then pam_mount works fine. If I login with the same credentials on a ldm session then I get the following error in /var/log/auth.log

pam_mount: warning: could not obtain password interactively either
(...)
and no volumes are mounted. And finally, if I switch to either gdm or lightdm as display managers then pam_mount works as expected.
