You'd also be able to install a new program or make a tweak without
having to rebuild the image and restart the clients, wouldn't you?

Based on what you said, I feel less inclined to worry about the size
of the image, but the issue above is annoying. I also still haven't
figured out a good way to install/update programs that use a GUI
installer/update. Especially annoying are Eclipse plugins, because the
easiest way to update them is from the Help menu in a running Eclispe
instance, but I can't figure out how to run it from inside the chroot
and any changes made at a client don't make it back to the image.
