The process of load balancing works quite well. We have had one single
server dedicated for dhcp, tftpboot the images and serving home dirs.
The login processes were spread over three servers for load balancing
the cpu load of the users processes.

No. ltsp cluster works fine. The decision to switch to a single server
configuration was due to the fact that we use more fat clients with
lesser need for server cpu power. Additionally configuring the cluster
takes more admin work than managing a single server.
