We might be able to help, however, more information from you would be 
useful.

Your server

motherboard, memory, network card(s) how many and what is/are their 
chipsets, is edubuntu 14.04 installed from scratch on the server or is 
it an upgrade carried over from the older server? What desktop 
environment have you elected to use?

Your network

how many servers and how many clients and how many subnets? Are the 
network cards a mixture of 100 bit (from clients) and gigabit (from 
server)? Are the switches all gigabit ports are they "smart" i.e. 
"managed" or "unmanaged"?
