Some time ago Stan Beutens published a neat little analysis of ornamentation symbols in English manuscripts. Is there anything comparable for the 16th c. Italian works? Or, since I don't really notice much of ornament notation in the Italian work, is there at least a guide to where and how to embellish appropriately? Purely intuitive?
