What would be nice for 1.6 is to have an inset where in the fileformat, it would save not only the LyX formatting instructions but also the generated LaTeX snippet. Then, if your Lyx version does not have the logic to read and modify the formatting instructions, it would just paste the LaTeX code and the printed output would still be correct.
