Does anyone else have comments regarding Günter's proposal? Günter, are you volunteering to do everything you proposed? Normally I would ask for this issue to wait until the beginning of 2.4.0, but as Julien pointed out [1], putting this in later in the release cycle minimizes the effort of backporting.
