The only character which is not allowed in UNIX filenames is /, the
space is a separator for the shell (by default) and for everything
else that wants it to be a separator, but is perfectly allowed in
filenames.
Moreover, we have directories exported to Windows clients and it's
difficult to perusade everyone not to have spaces in file names.
