Seen the same issues on Mac and Linux, but it's particularly vexing on
Windows since the recent (April'17) Miktex 2.9 release: Lyx 2.0/1/2 used to
work flawlessly for years before the new miktex release.
Now it needs multiple re-installs, remove miktex, re-install miktex,
reconfig Lyx, check Tex (still fails), check/edit Paths, reconfig again...
even the Lyx install bundle fails to do any better... :-(
Lyx was a great tool, yet the current issues w/ paths, Tex compilers,
missing styles etc. started long ago (similar reports from a decade ago).
Now they're aggravated by whatever Miktex has changed in miktex-2.9.6236
Can we help somehow to fix this hurdle?
I can't tell my colleagues and students to keep trying to fix a broken
Lyx/Miktex install ... until they get it right :-)
