It's pretty easy to install several versions of LyX on the same computer. I'd see if I could convert it using a LyX older than 2.4.0 Beta2, and if I can, then I'd try to convert the converted file to 2.4.0 Beta2. Obviously I'd back up the original file and back up at each successful stage.
