It's a bug. Several things need to be done. First, you have to add ProvidesMakeidx 1 to the memoir.layout file. Then, the makeindex package is not loaded. However, LyX currently does not run the makeindex program in this case. This needs to be fixed in the sources. So you're probably stuck with running latex and makeindex manually untill the next release. Please file a bug report on bugzilla if this bug has not been reported yet. Jürgen
