Maybe a wrong configuration no longer highlighting with bold?

Latin Modern: package lmodern (or something including "lmodern").

apt-file can find the package containing "lmodern" and also "txfonts"
(providing another typewriter-font with bold via 
  \renewcommand{\ttdefault}{txtt}
)
