Neither bibtex nor bibtex8 supports utf8, so you have to chose another encoding (a single-byte encoding such as latin9) for your bib file. If you really need utf8 in your bib file, you need to use biblatex-biber, which is still beta software, though. See http://wiki.lyx.org/BibTeX/Tips#encoding Jürgen
