It also works with my non-Ubuntu 2.6.18.1 kernel

I patched it with all the patchs from svn exept the sound driver patch (as 
explained in the Gentoo page).

I used the .config of this page.

I'm using gnome and i didn't search which command the "Sleep" button runs... 
but it seems that it is NOT echo mem /sys/power/state.

I just tried it in a root console, and my screen stayed black after resume...

If I find the method that is used by the gnome logout system, I'll tell you
