 You would want to find some kind of Bluetooth device for this. This
works fine with the Nokia tablets.

The 770 had limited support for USB host mode but AFAIK the N800 doesn't
seem to have this feature. No one has tried it yet, at least ;)

modem needs 5V/500ma, from USB - So i dont think this would be
possible...

 It would be horribly unwieldy, you'd need a power injector device as
well as a USB hub (or at least some kind of adapter). It would defeat
the "portable" aspect of the Nokia tablets.

 It just needs a some kind of hack that injects little bit +5v to 770/N800
USB
connector so that it detects USB device present there. It does not need
actual
power suplied by this way.

I have personally used two kind of hacks for this. Simpler is just to use
USB HUB that has +5V input from power supply. These units has one
schotky diode preventing them in normal operation feeding power back
to host. With 770/N800 usage, just replace this diode with wire that
feeds +5V back because it is behavior that we need.

I have done same hack for some self-powered USB devices, so then no hub
needed al all. Anyhow, all of these hacks needs to have external +5V power
supply
becausse 770/N800 is not suplying power to them.

The other problem is that 770/N800 is having only minimun USB driver set
in kernel and if your device is not matching small number of
manufacturer/device ID, you need to have also kernel driver.

 This is why Bluetooth is ideal for this kind of situation; you'd have
your cell phone in your pocket, your tablet in hand...pervasive Internet
access almost anywhere. This is what I do, at least.

 I also recommend bluetooth until you have very good reason to use
other methods. I personally used USB to connect embedded realtime
data accusation/real time control device.

Hi

You said you use it with USB interface to realtime embedded system.  Could
you possibly pointing me in a direction to look into to interface with
embedded systems.  I built a model truck controlled by an 8051 controller
that I use a program like hyper terminal to program through USB to Serial.
It would be cool at demonstrations to be able to program the truck with my
N800 instead of having to hook up to my laptop.  It could simply send
precompiled HEX files to the controller, even cooler if I could figure out
how to compile the files but uploading precompiled would be good enough.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
