I will be going with http://www.mail-archive.com/ which produces searchable mail archives and is a wonderful free service that has been around since 1998.

The reason is that the server that will run the list does not have a lot of disk space to allocate to archives.
A simple way would be to tell mailman not to archive, but subscribe an account on another machine to the list which feeds posts to mhonarc or another archiver. You could also use an existing archive service such as http://www.mail-archive.com/ to do this.
