I propose that we wait for this to be finished in OpenLayers. Then we can decide whether we want to use whatever OpenLayers will offer to show that layers are being loaded, or use the events fired by OpenLayers to bring Loading.js/Loading2.js back to life. At this point, we can not do much about these widgets not working, because we have no events on which we can determine if layers are still loading or not.
