Just to make sure that I understand your question. You need a single call to the MapGuide server that produces an image, like you can do with the Google Static MAP api? http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/staticmap?center=Berkeley,CA&zoom=14&size=400x400&sensor=false
I think you can expose a map as a WFS or WMS layer and that will provide you with the same functionality.
