Over the last 8 months, the Discovery of Sound in the Sea (DOSITS) <http://www.dosits.org/> Team has been facilitating a free, five-part webinar series for the international regulatory community on topics related to underwater sound. Presentations have covered the topics of sound movement and sound measurement; ocean noise variability and noise budgets; sound production and reception in marine animals; the potential effects of sound on marine mammals; and the potential effects of sound on marine fishes. All previous webinars have been archived in video form to the DOSITS website; associated webinar outlines, summaries, as well as pdf versions of presentations are also available for download. (Webinar Series for Regulators of Underwater Sound <http://www.dosits.org/resources/all/decisionmakers/ircwebinar/>; http://www.dosits.org/resources/all/decisionmakers/ircwebinar/ <http://www.dosits.org/resources/all/decisionmakers/ircwebinar/>)
The fifth and final webinar in this series will provide a brief summary of previous webinars, and offer an opportunity for participants to follow up on the topics presented and ask additional questions. A panel of previous webinar speakers will be online and available to answer questions. Topics already identified for further discussion include particle motion vs pressure detection in marine fishes; stress response, in marine mammals, to anthropogenic sound; potential impacts to marine mammals from airgun exposure; and an expanded discussion on behavioral response studies in marine mammals. The webinar will take place Thursday, June 2, 2016, at 12:00pm (US East Coast time). Individuals must register in advance for the webinar.
